Over the Hills [& Far Away]: The Paintings of JustinGruneberg
Justin Gruneberg's work in indicative of his surroundings, both real and imagined. Gaze at his paintings and you can briefly enter this world- a glimpse from beyond his bedroom window, an experience from somewhere within his psyche.
Much of his work is centered around places and those who, even briefly, occupy those specific locations. The rural surroundings in which he grew up and continues to live has shaped his work immensely.
He creates entire worlds using oils and acrylic- transforming a blank, snow-whiite canvas into the rolling hills of Pennsylvania. Or witness a frozen moment of time which initially manifested itself singularly, isolated in his mind, to later be transformed into a painting viewed by an audience. As an artist, he creates the scene for us to enter, then leads us on a journey through the strokes of color on his paintbrush.
But he can only take us so far- the rest is up to the viewer.
